Xicara -- San Antonio and Lake Atitlan #5

Oil painting on canvas measuring 12 x 27 inches, stretched. Signed lower left "A. Xicara '94", titled lower right "S. Antonio Palopo". The artist lives in the town of San Jorge on the north side of Lake Atitlan. He is fond of painting images of the village of San Antonio Palopo, which is located on the southeast side of the lake. This painting is a scene of the typical houses and architecture in the village. It is a detailed painting, with Lake Atitlan and the volcanoes Toliman and Atitlan in the background. The old colonial church, which is situated at the center of the community, is on the left-hand side. Women wearing traditional traje can be seen in the streets.

This painting was purchased recently, and is dated 1994. There is light soil on the painting and the stretching is not tight but is slightly wavy. There is light soil and mildew on the back, as if it were stored in a humid climate. Still, the painting is in good condition and quite presentable as is.
