Vasquez Gonzalez -- In a Restaurant on Lake Atitlan

Chester Kenneth Vasquez Gonzalez is a young talented contemporary painter from San Juan la Laguna. He currently exhibits in galleries in Panajachel and San Pedro -- I bought this painting in Panajachel in January of 2009. The best of Gonzalez work present a somewhat surrealistic air. In this scene in a restaurant bar on Lake Atitlan, all but one (front left) of the women diners wear American coctail attire, while all the men wear indigenous dress. The sky is of an unreal color--it is doubtful that this scene exists in reality. This may represent the artist's fantasy.

This painting measures 48 x 24 inches, and is not stretched. It will be shipped rolled in a hard tube. It is signed in the lower right "Vasquez Gonzalez".
