Large woman's tzute made in this village on Lake Atitlan
This woman's tzute was produced in the Tzutujil Maya town of Santiago Atitlan, and dates from the 1990s. It was woven in two narrow panels on a treadle loom, and is 100% cotton woven in warp-faced plain weave. It is extremely finely woven, as can be seen in the second photo below. Much of the design features small figures of warp-ikat. The fringes show nice braided details. The dark pink embroidery at the ends is applied using machine embroidery.
