Product Description

Traditional large cargador measuring approximately 43 x 49 inches

This is a traditional woman's cargador or carrying cloth tzute from San Juan Sacatepequez. It dates from the 1980s. It was handwoven on a backstrap loom in two panels, then joined with a simple randa down the center. All four edges are selvage-finished. Dimensions are 43 inches wide and approximately 49 inches long, though the shape is somewhat irregular. Background fabric is cotton of multi-colored stripes. The brocaded designs are a combination of cotton and synthetic threads. Condition is Very Good, perhaps there are a few loose threads, since this is a used tzute. There is also some light soil and looseness in the weave where the weaving was ended. The photos below show the lower right corner and lower left corner respectively.

Dimensions: approximately 43 inches wide and 49 inches long.
