Oil painting on canvas, measuring 9 x 11 inches, stretched. Signed lower left "Salva. Q. T." for Salvador Quejul Tiney, a Maya artist who lives in one of the villages on the south shore of Lake Atitlan, possibly San Pedro la Laguna. Tiney sells his works in the art galleries in Santiago Atitlan. He is a new artist whom I discovered on our trip to Guatemala in 2006. His paintings are characterized by very detailed treatment of clothing and other details in his paintings. This painting is of a traditional market scene in Santiago Atitlan, and was painted recently.
