Product Description
Oil painting on stretched canvas measuring 12 x 16 inches, with simple frame
Oscar Peren lives and works in the Kakchiquel Maya town of San Juan Comalapa, which has a 60+ year history of painters in the naif style. He was born in 1950, and currently lives and works with his family in his Gallery in Comalapa. He has exhibited widely in his home country, and a number of his paintings are represented in the book Arte Naif Guatemala published by UNESCO in 1998.
Oscar paints today in two distinctly different styles. He still paints his unique scenes of Guatemalan village life, especially in his native town of San Juan Comalapa, in his unique naif style. He also paints in a more contemporary "Western" style depicting landscapes in southern Guatemala. This very detailed painting exemplifies his proficiency in the former style.
Painting on canvas measuring 12 x 16 inches. It was purchased in 2009 from Peren's gallery in Comalapa, and bears the original wood frame as displayed in the gallery. Overall dimensions are 13 x 17 inches. It is signed in the lower left corner "O Peren". Oscar told me that he is the bus driver, and depicts many of the humorous events encountered by the rural bus drivers.
