Orlando Peren -- Moros en Comalapa

Orlando Peren lives and works in the Kakchiquel Maya town of San Juan Comalapa, which has a 60+ year history of painters in the naif style. He is the son of Oscar Peren, and currently lives and works with his family in their Gallery in Comalapa. He has exhibited widely in his home country, and has become an important and talented painter in his own right.

This is a large painting on canvas measuring 32 x 24 inches. It was purchased in 2011 from Peren's gallery in Comalapa. It is signed in the lower left corner "Moros en Comalapa, Orlando Peren". It depicts a scene of a traditional Dance of the Moros performed at village festivals in the Comalapa region.
