Julio Apen is a young painter from San Juan Comalapa. He specializes in very detailed paintings of scenes of everyday life in his home village. This painting was purchased in 2011 in a gallery in Antigua.

This is an oil painting on stretched canvas, and measures approximately 8 x 6 inches. It is stretched but not framed. It is signed in the lower left "Julio v. Apen" and titled "Elevacion de Globos". The scene depicted is a typical activity of children of Comalapa, especially on festival days.
