Julian Coche Mendoza is the younger brother of Antonio Coche, the first painter from San Juan la Laguna. He initially painted in the naive style popular around Lake Atitlan; but after spending a few years in art school in Guatemala City, he now paints in a modern cubist style. His work is quite dynamic and colorful, and depict daily scenes common in his village.
Oil painting on canvas measuring 32 x 24 inches, unstretched. The painting will be mailed rolled in a hard tube. Signed "Julian Coche M." in the lower left corner, and dated 2009 in the lower right. The painting depicts a Mayan couple dancing a very traditional Guatemalan dance This painting was purchased in January 2010 in the Mendoza family gallery in San Juan. Different photos were taken in different lighting, actual color is somewhat in between.
