Oil painting on canvas measuring 36 x 18 inches, unstretched. This painting will be mailed rolled in a stiff tube. Signed lower right by the artist "Juan David", a contemporary painter from Santiago Atitlan. Depicted is a Maya woman weaver, busy at her work. Most Maya Indian women still weave their own huipiles on a backstrap loom, as they have done for hundreds of years. She is wearing a very beautiful product of her labor.
Juan David is a very talented artist whose output is small, I have only seen a few of his paintings in 10 years of visiting Guatemala. The second image below is a closer look at the woman. Different images are in different lighting, the actual color is somewhere in between.
