Signed "Jose Antonio pur Gonzalaz" in the lower left center, titled "Mercado de Noche Atitlan" in lower right center. In the Tzutujil Maya town of Santiago Atitlan, the food market was traditionally held at night, after the days work. This painting depicts that scene. It was painted ca. 1998, during the same year of the publication of the UNESCO book titled Arte Naif -- Guatemala. A similar painting by Jose Antonio is pictured in that book.
