Fully brocaded woman's huipil of very fine design

This post-1980 woman's huipil was hand-woven on a backstrap loom. The foundation fabric is cotton. The finely-brocaded geometric designs were added during the weaving process using the technique of supplemental-weft brocading. All brocading is of cotton threads. The huipil consists of three panels, seemed at the edges to form the garment. The lower edges are somewhat uneven and are either selvage finished or short cut warp fringe. The adornment around the head- and arm-holes is retained. The stitching at the sides, which makes the huipil into a finished garment to be used, has been removed. The brocaded designs are on all three panels and are very fine. This is a thick and fairly heavy garment.

Measurements: 35 inches wide across the body tapering to 39 inches at the bottom, and 28 inches, more or less, shoulder to hem.

Condition: Very Good, lightly used, shows some slight wear and soil possible.
