Young Girl's daily-use huipil of unusual color and design
This post-1980 daily-use huipil was hand-woven on a backstrap loom. The foundation fabric is cotton. The finely-brocaded geometric designs were added during the weaving process using the technique of supplemental-weft brocading. All brocading is of cotton and synthetic threads. It is very fine and covers the top half of all three panels. The huipil consists of three panels, seemed at the edges to form the garment. Some of the lower edges are selvage-finished, and some have loosely-sewn hems. The adornment around the head- and arm-holes is retained. The stitching at the sides, which makes the huipil into a finished garment to be used, has also been retained, making this a functional garment. The base fabric consisting of wide stripes of varying colors is highly unusual, and the brocading on all three panels is also not typical.

Measurements: 17.5 inches wide across the body, and 14.5 inches, more or less, shoulder to hem in the back and in the front.

Condition: Very Good, lightly used, some slight soil and a few loose threads are possible.
