Huipil Todos Santos #16A

Fully brocaded woman's huipil in the style of the 1970's

This post-2000 woman's huipil was hand-woven on a backstrap loom. The foundation fabric is cotton. The finely-brocaded geometric designs were added during the weaving process using the technique of supplemental-weft brocading. All brocading is of cotton threads. The huipil consists of three panels, seemed at the edges to form the garment. The lower edges are somewhat uneven -- three are nicely selvage-finished, the other three with cut warp fringes. The adornment around the head- and arm-holes is retained. The stitching at the sides, which makes the huipil into a finished garment to be used, has been removed. The brocaded designs are on all three panels and are very fine.  The broad red and white vertical stripes in the foundation fabric indicates that the weaver intended to mimic the style of the 1970's.

Measurements: 32 inches wide across the body, and 24 inches, more or less, shoulder to hem.

Condition: Very Good, lightly used, shows some slight wear.
