Product Description
Older Woman's huipil measuring approximately 32 inches wide and 27 inches long
This pre-1980 daily use huipil was hand-woven on a backstrap loom. The foundation fabric is reddish brown-colored cotton. The detailed floral and geometric designs were added during the weaving process using the technique of supplemental-weft brocading. They were made using mostly cotton threads. It consists of three panels, seemed with a fancy randa stitch. All of the lower edges are selvage-finished, though some are somewhat loose from the manner in which they were removed from the loom. The adornment around the head-hole the traditional Chichicastenango sun design. The side stitching (which made the huipil into a finished garment to be used) has been removed.
Measurements: approximately 32 inches wide and about 27 inches shoulder to hem; the lengths are somewhat uneven, as can be seen in the photo.
Condition: Very Good, lightly used, some very light soil and loose threads possible. There is mild overall wear to this older garment; both sides are pictured because there is been some light repair work done by a previous owner, to extend the useful life of this much-loved garment
