Product Description
Large woman's huipil measuring 34 inches wide and about 27 inches long
This ca. 2000 daily use huipil was hand-woven on a backstrap loom. The foundation fabric is a dark brown cotton. The large geometric designs were added during the weaving process using the technique of supplemental-weft brocading. They were made using mostly cotton threads, and are quite strong and vibrant. It consists of three panels, which have been joined in the areas of the brocading using a fancy randa stitch. All of the lower edges are selvage-finished, though there is some slight looseness in the threads in the lower areas from the manner in which they were removed from the loom. The lengths are also quite uneven, as can be seen in the photos The adornment around the head-hole the traditional Chichicastenango sun design. The side stitching (which makes the huipil into a finished garment to be used) is still present.
Measurements: 34 inches wide and 24-28 inches shoulder to hem, more or less.
Condition: Very Good condition, with some light soil and loose threads possible. Generally in very nice lightly used condition.
