Diego Isaias Hernandez Mendez is a contemporary Guatemalan Mayan painter who lives on Lake Atitlan in the small town of San Juan la Laguna. He specializes in works depicting the accidents and other troubles common in the daily lives of the people, often depicted with humor. He illustrated a small children's book entitled Trouble Dolls: A Guatemalan Legend, published in the U.S. in 2000.
This is an oil painting on stretched canvas, and measures approximately 20 x 16 inches. It is stretched and framed in a simple black wood frame. It is signed in the lower left "D. Isaias Hernandez Mendez" and titled in the lower right "dolor y gritos por un quebradura de hueso" (pain and yelling because of a broken bone). This painting was recently purchased, and is in Very Good condition.
