Diego Isaias Hernandez Mendez is a contemporary Guatemalan Mayan painter who lives on Lake Atitlan in the small town of San Juan la Laguna. He specializes in works depicting the accidents and other troubles common in the daily lives of the people, often depicted with humor. He illustrated a small children's book entitled Trouble Dolls: A Guatemalan Legend, published in the U.S. in 2000.

This is an oil painting on stretched canvas, and measures approximately 9 x 11 inches. It is stretched but not framed. It is signed in the lower left corner "D. Isaias Hernandez" and titled in the lower right "Perdida por un perro rabioso" (Lost due to a rabid dog). This painting was recently purchased in Santiago Atitlan, and is in Very Good condition.
