This miniature pot was purchased in the early 1990s from the workshop of the famous potter Dona Rosa Valente Nieto Real in San Bartolo Coyotepec, Oaxaca, Mexico. These pots are all formed by hand, polished with a smooth stone to give the gunmetal sheen, and fired in a wood fire in a ground pit. Each is one-of-a-kind. The design is all carved and incised by hand. Size can be seen by reference to the quarter in the photo.
