Post 1990 weaving measuring 35 inches wide and 48 inches long
This traditional shawl or tzute was made in the Ixil Maya town of San Gaspar Chajul. It was woven in two narrow panels on a backstrap loom, using warp-faced plain weave. The panels were seemed together along the long side to make the tzute. The decoration was added using supplemental weft brocading. This shawl probably dates from post 1990, and the condition is excellent, with possibly some light soil.
