Bayron Xocop is a contemporary Maya artist from San Juan Comalapa. He paints in a naturalistic manner, and specialize in very detailed paintings of famous scenes in the Guatemalan highlands. This painting was purchased in 2015 in his gallery in Antigua.
This is an oil painting on stretched canvas, and measures 12 x 16 inches. It is stretched but not framed. It is signed in the lower right corner "Bayron Xocop" and titled "Atitlan". The scene depicted is Lake Atitlan, with the two volcanoes Toliman (foreground) and Atitlan,, as seen from the village of San Antonio Palopo. It is a very atmospheric painting of the scene on an overcast hazy day.
