Mayan Antique Silver Earrings

Mayan Antique Silver Earrings

Manufacturer: N/A
SKU: G-A-Earrings1
Price: $0.00
This item is out of stock
Quantity:
The Guatemalan Maya women often wear decorative earrings made of silver or gold, and sometimes of brass as a less expensive option for a gold color. They have been made by individual artisans and in small workshops for decades, and are still made in many communities to satisfy the indigenous demand.

These earrings are mostly from the department of Chimaltenango, from the villages around Comalapa and Patzun and Tecpan. The photo below of the group gives a sense of scale--the included coin is an American dime. All are handmade, some of silver and some of brass, and are generally 20-50 years old. Since similar examples are still being made, it is difficult to ascertain exact age. All are in Very Good usable condition, and were individually chosen by me on various trips to Guatemala.

Please be aware that these earrings are handmade. The ear wire is somewhat larger than for commercially produced examples, and there is a handmade closure hook at the end of the ear wire. For these reasons, a somewhat larger ear pierce is necessary.

NOTE:If a certain pair of earrings you see in the box is not in the following list of earrings for sale, that pair has been sold.
