Small wooden weaving utensils are made by many African tribal people who also weave. Heddle pulleys are one category of collectible carvings.
This heddle pulley measures about 8 inches long and 3 inches across the fork. It is all natural wood and has a full 3-dimensional carved head. Tribal origin Baule, Ivory Coast, western Africa. Shows normal wear from usage and handling, with some soil in the grooves and a short split below the neck. This split penetrates about one-half inch. There is a similar short crack in the side of the head. I have not attempted to clean or do any repairs, so this object is in "as found" condition.
