San Martin Sacatepequez Huipil #3

San Martin Sacatepequez Huipil #3

Manufacturer: N/A
SKU: G-T-H-SMCV-3
Price: $75.00
This item is in stock
Quantity:
The Mam Maya town of San Martin Sacatepequez is located in the Quetzaltenango department of western Guatemala. It is locally known as Chile Verde for its dominant crop of green peppers.

This post-1980 daily use huipil was hand-woven on a backstrap loom. The designs were all added using the technique of supplemental weft brocading during the weaving process. The threads employed are a mixture of cotton and synthetic. The huipil consists of two panels, seamed down the center with a fancy decorative randa stitch. One of the lower edges is selvage-finished, and the other three are hemmed. The emroidered collar around the neck was applied after the weaving was finished. The stitching under the arm-holes has been removed, so that the garment can be laid flat or worn like a poncho.

Measurements: 34 to 36 inches wide and 26 inches shoulder to hem.

Condition: Very Good, lightly used, some very slight soil is possible, some loose threads, some slight fading.
