This is a finely woven huipil from Amusgos, Oaxaca. It was all handwoven in three panels on a back-strap loom. All edges are very nicely selvage-finished. The seems where the panels have been joined are hand-stitched in black cotton thread, and the sides are seamed in the same manner. The foundation fabric is fine white cotton. The designs were added during the weaving process using supplemental weft brocading. It is all of cotton thread of different colors.

This huipil was recently woven. It is in excellent condition, with no wear, and perhaps some slight soil. It was purchased in the market in Oaxaca city in the early 1990s

Dimensions: total width approx. 19 inches; total length shoulder to hem 21 inches.

Condition: Excellent, lightly used, slight soil possible
