I purchased these Zulu telephone wire baskets ca. 1990 from a woman who bought them in a women's cooperative in South Africa. The Zulu women were using recycled telephone wire is various colors to form these baskets. Many have tags with an indication of the maker's name.

This particular basket is 6.3 inches in diameter and 2.2 inches tall. The attached paper tag reads "Elphas Mshengu". In addition to the regular basket weaving, the weave has been ofset in a 4-lobe quatrefoil to give the surface a three-dimensional effect.
