Peru Inca Textile #1

Peru Inca Textile #1

Manufacturer: N/A
SKU: P-IT-1
Price: $85.00
This item is out of stock
Quantity:
This is an all wool woven textile, beautiful and quite finely woven. I was told by the woman from whom I purchased it that it was from the Inca descendants living around Cuzco, Peru. It is made from handspun wool, hand-woven on an Andean loom. The two panels are sewn together with a very fine stitch. The two panels are the same, as can be seen in the first photo below. The dyes appear to be mostly synthetic, though there could also be some natural dyes present. I would guess the date to be ca. 1940-1960. The foundation is a very fine dark brown wool. The overlaid applied edging appears to be of silk brocade, stitched onto the base textile by hand. There was then added a decorative hand-stitched design of leaf-and-vine style.

Condition is Very Good, light wear particularly to silk cloth edging, no holes or repairs noticed, light soil possible.
