Zunil Huipil #1

Zunil Huipil #1

Manufacturer: N/A
SKU: G-T-H-Zun-1
Price: $65.00
This item is in stock
Quantity:
This post-1980 daily use huipil is from the Quiche Maya town of Zunil located in Guatemala's western highlands. It was hand-woven on a backstrap loom. The foundation fabric is cotton. The huipiles of Zunil are unusual in having no brocaded designs, just the narrow warp stripes. The huipil consists of two panels, seemed with a very fine hand stitch, with a decorative randa in the upper section. Two of the lower edges are beautifully selvage-finished, the other two have fine sewn hems. The adornment around the head-hole is retained; there is no sign of there having ever been stitching under the arm-holes. The huipil still exists as originally worn.

Measurements: 25 inches wide, and 29 inches long, more or less, from shoulder to hem. The huipil is the same design both front and back.

Condition: Very Good, lightly used with some light wear and light soil possible.
