Chimaltenango Huipil #1

Chimaltenango Huipil #1

Manufacturer: N/A
SKU: G-T-H-Chim-1
Price: $36.00
This item is in stock
Quantity:
This post-1980 daily use huipil was woven on a backstrap loom. The traditional geometric designs were added during the weaving process using the technique of supplemental-weft brocading; they are of a mixture of cotton and synthetic threads. It consists of two panels, down the center of the garment. All lower edges are selvage finished. The stitching down the sides, under the arm-holes, which makes the huipil into a finished garment as used by the Maya women, has been removed to facilitate display. This a very nicely-made and finely-woven example. Huipiles from this Kakchiquel Maya village are uncommon, since the women prefer to wear commercial blouses.

Measurements: 29 inches wide and 21-24 inches shoulder to hem. The panels are not of even length, as can be seen in the photo.

Condition: Very Good, lightly used, some very slight soil is possible, a few loose or pulled threads; this is a very clean and very finely-woven huipil.
