These panels are made in the Tzutujil Maya Village of Santiago Atitlan, located on Lake Atitlan in Guatemala's southern highlands. They are all embroidered by hand on a cloth panel that was woven on a backstrap loom. Each is unique. This embroidery is particularly fine and of unusual subject. It was made by Petronilla Crista Chiquival, and I purchased it directly from her in January 2008.
This particular panel depicts the Nativity, and measures approximately 18 inches tall and 20 inches wide, but is somewhat irregular in shape. It is new and in very good but lightly soiled condition.
