This post-1990 daily use huipil was woven on a backstrap loom. The foundation material is a very supple polished cotton. The contemporary floral designs were added during the weaving process using the technique of supplemental-weft brocading; they are almost entirely of cotton threads. This modern style of Comalapa weaving is called marcador, indicating that the brocaded design covers the entire garment, and thus lacks the traditional Comalapa banded layout with red shoulder bands. It consists of two panels, joined down the center of the garment. All lower edges are nicely selvage finished. The decorative embroidery around the head-hole finishes the hole that was cut in the fabric. The stitching down the sides, under the arm-holes, which makes the huipil into a finished garment as used by the Maya women, has been removed to facilitate display. This a very nicely-made and finely-woven example of the more contemporary style of Comalapa production.

Measurements: 32 inches wide and 25 inches shoulder to hem.

Condition: Very Good, lightly used, some very slight soil is possible, a few loose or pulled threads; this is a very clean and very finely-woven huipil. There is also some looseness in the lower part of the foundation fabric on one side, where the weaving battens were removed. This flaw is locally called golpeado.
