San Antonio Palopo Huipil #2

San Antonio Palopo Huipil #2

Manufacturer: N/A
SKU: G-T-H-SAP-2
Price: $50.00
This item is in stock
Quantity:
This post-1980 daily use huipil is from the Tzutujil Maya village of San Antonio Palopo, located on Lake Atitlan. It was hand-woven on a backstrap loom. The foundation fabric is cotton. The huipiles of San Antonio are unusual in having no brocaded designs, just the narrow warp stripes. The huipil consists of three panels, seemed with a very fine hand stitch. All of the lower edges are beautifully selvage-finished. The adornment around the head- and arm-holes is retained, and the stitching under the arm holes is still present. The huipil still exists as originally worn.

Measurements: 34 inches wide, and 35 inches long, more or less, from shoulder to hem. The huipil is the same design both front and back.

Condition: Very Good, lightly used with some light wear and light soil possible.
