Arturo Valderramos -- Man and Woman from Solola

Quantity:
The Guatemalan painter Arturo Valderramos worked in the period from 1950 to 1980, judging from his work which I have seen. Senor Valderramos was born in 1915 and died in 1995. The photo above was provided by his daughter, who now lives in Germany. Many of his paintings consist of pairs of paintings, a man and a woman, dressed in traditional Guatemalan traje.

This particular pair of paintings show a man and a woman from the Cakchiquel town of Solola, which is the capital of the department of the same name. The paintings are oil on canvas, which has been loosely wrapped around a piece of cardboard. The canvas does not appear to be glued to the boards. The sight size of each painting is 14 x 18 inches. The frames are nicely hand-carved wood with no finish. My guess is that these paintings date from the 1970s.

Condition is very good, with some very slight surface soil. They appear to have never been varnished. The final photo below shows the signature, and also the details in the carving of the corner of the frame.
