Bayron Xocop is a contemporary Maya artist from San Juan Comalapa. He paints in a naturalistic manner, and specialize in very detailed paintings of famous scenes in the Guatemalan highlands. This painting was purchased in 2006 in his gallery in Antigua.
This is an oil painting on stretched canvas, and measures 32 x 24 inches. It is stretched but not framed. It is signed in the lower right corner "Bayron Xocop" and titled "Atitlan GT" in the lower left. The scene depicted is Lake Atitlan, with the three volcanoes Toliman (foreground) and Atitlan, with San Pedro in the background, as seen from the village of San Antonio Palopo. It is a very atmospheric painting of the scene on an overcast hazy day. Shipping weight is 10 pounds to allow for the large size.
