Nebaj Huipil #4B

Nebaj Huipil #4B

Manufacturer: N/A
SKU: G-T-H-Ne-4B
Price: $70.00
This item is in stock
Quantity:
This central panel of a ca. 1980s daily use huipil was hand-woven on a backstrap loom. It has been augmented by adding commercial fabric on both sides, so that it is now a usable huiipil. The women of Nebaj often do this to lengthen the useable life of woven garments. The foundation fabric is white cotton. The designs were added during the weaving process using the technique of supplemental-weft brocading. All brocading appear to be of cotton threads, though there may be a small amount of synthetic threads. The elaborate adornment around the neck was added after the weaving. These huipils usually consist of a wide central panel, supplemented with two small side panels. In this case the side panels are of a fancy synthetic cloth; often women will change these side panels to reflect a new aesthetic. The adornment around the head-hole is retained; the side stitches, which make the huipil into a finished garment to be used, are also present.

Measurements: 30-31 inches wide and 24 inches shoulder to hem.

Condition: Very Good, lightly used, some very slight soil is possible, some loose threads, some slight fading.
