Nebaj Huipil Panel #3

Nebaj Huipil Panel #3

Manufacturer: N/A
SKU: G-T-H-Ne-3
Price: $60.00
This item is out of stock
Quantity:
This central panel of a ca. 1980s daily use huipil was hand-woven on a backstrap loom. The foundation fabric is cotton. The designs were added during the weaving process using the technique of supplemental-weft brocading. All brocading appear to be of cotton threads, though there may be a small amount of synthetic threads. The elaborate adornment around the neck was added after the weaving. These huipils usually consist of a wide central panel, supplemented with two small side panels. In this case the side panels have been removed; often women will change these side panels to reflect a new aesthetic. Newer huipiles often have decorative commercial cloth here. The adornment around the head-hole is retained; but the side stitches, which make the huipil into a finished garment to be used, have been removed.

Measurements: 23 inches wide and 23 inches shoulder to hem.

Condition: Very Good, lightly used, some very slight soil is possible, some loose threads, some slight fading.
