This traditional 1970s style shawl or tzute was made in the Ixil Maya town of Santa Maria Nebaj. It was woven in 2 narrow panels on a backstrap loom, using warp-faced plain weave. The two panels were then joined along a long edge, and the decoration was added using hand embroidery. This shawl probably dates from the 1980s or 1990s, and the condition is excellent, with possibly some light soil. The photos below show either end.
