The best book available on Guatemalan naif art is Arte Naif Guatemala, published by UNESCO in 1998. The idea was formed to publish a book of Guatemalan artists "with the purpose of promoting the rescue and conservation of one of Guatemala's most original features interwoven in our society's distinct character" (quote from the Preliminary Note of the bilingual edition). Featured in that book are paintings by 80 different Maya artists from Comalapa, Patzicia, and the towns around Lake Atitlan. Accompanying text describes the history and development of the art form. This book is an introductory summary, covering 26 artists, and organized by themes of the paintings. It is a NEW book purchased in Guatemala. There may be some slight rubbing to the cover from transportation and storage. This is the First Edition of this book and is in Spanish.
