Maya Wood Pipe #6 -- Stylized Animal Head

Maya Wood Pipe #6 -- Stylized Animal Head

Manufacturer: N/A
SKU: G-A-MP-6
Price: $42.00
This item is out of stock
Quantity:
The Maya Indian men, particularly those in the altiplano around the town of Nahuala, carve wooden items for their daily use. Pipes and hondas (slingshots) are the items most commonly encountered.

This nicely carved wooden pipe has a metal liner in the bowl. Overall length including the stem is 6 inches, height is 1.7 inches. The brown patina looks genuine, and every indication is that this pipe was undoubtedly made to be actually used, probably by a native of the Nahuala region. There is burn residue in the bowl and around the stem-hole. Both the carving and the patina are very nice, and the stem looks original. A quarter is included in the picture for size comparison.
