Various utilitarian bags and tent hangings are made by village and nomadic tribal peoples in many parts of the world. The Turcoman peoples of Afghanistan and Central Asia make specialty bags in this form to store salt, a valuable commodity. This particular bag is densely woven in a flat-weave technique using supplemental wefts for the colorful designs. This bag is made of all wool and is in very nice lightly used condition.
