Oil painted on canvas, which was then mounted on maasonite hardboard. The painting was then framed in a very simple manner, and can be easily taken apart. Image size is approx. 20 x 14 inches. A beautiful Andean landscape including the volcano in the background. A native with five sheep can be seen on the right. There is some very slight surface dirt, but cleaning is not necessary. Signed lower right "G. Moncayo" and titled lower left "El Cotocachi, Ecuador". From the appearance of the paintings and the framing, I would guess the date for this painting to be about 1960-1970. But that is just a guess, and there is no date on the image or on the reverse side. The frame is fairly battered and needs replacing or refinishing. The painting is in excellent condition.
Hector Gustavo Moncayo signs his work "G. Moncayo", so as not to be confused with his father Hector, also a painter. Gustavo was born in 1943, in Quito. Living in a family of painters, he began painting at an early age. He has made his living painting, and is still working.
