African stools and headrests are functional household furniture, made locally for use by local people. They are invariably carved by hand from a single piece of wood, and have artistic as well as functional appeal. They are traditional and genuine tribal African art.

This old Nupe stool is just under 9 inches tall (the top is very slightly sloped), and the top is about 10.5 x 12.5 inches rectangular, with the edges curved. I would guess it dates from about 1950, and has a very nice used patina. There are the normal signs of usage, with light rubbing and some soil in the grooves, as well as some light chipping around the edges of the top. There are no noticeable repairs. See the photos below for more details. The top has a very nice line-carved decoration.
