From an editorial review by the publisher:

It is my pleasure to introduce to you The Guatemalan Slingshot, a beautiful art book that details the unique and traditional craft of slingshot carving in Guatemala. This book is a tribute to the creativity of local craftsmen who have taken a utilitarian object and have turned it into a vibrant form of expression. This is the first book ever published about this art form, showcasing several important collections and containing scholarly essays about the history, culture, and artistry behind this craft. The book is also a high quality visual document with over 50 photographs of Guatemala and its culture and over 400 color photographs of slingshots ranging from Superman to the Virgin Mary, soldiers to guerilla fighters, Quetzales, traditional dancers, and beyond.

La Ruta Maya Conservation Foundation, publisher of this book, is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving and exhibiting Pre-Columbian and popular art from Central America. Proceeds from the sale of The Guatemalan Slingshot fund projects of the foundation such as our program of repratriating and preserving Mayan artifacts, creating publications to expand awareness about the culture of the region. The book is a tribute to the creativity of people who have turned everyday objects into a delicate, little-known art form, and is intended to be the first in a series about the popular arts of the region.
