Book: Threads Breaking the Silence
The civil war in Guatemala during the 1970s through the mid-1990s decimated the indigenous Maya population in many parts of the country. The Communities of the Population in Resistance (CPR) were groups of displaced Mayan people from three regions of Guatemala: Sierra, Ixcan and the Peten. This book contains interviews of 30 women from the CPR-Sierra group, which survived in the rugged mountains of the Ixil region of the Quiche highlands from 1982 until the Peace Accords were signed in 1996. Through their embroideries, they tell their stories of violence and murder at the hands of state violence by the Guatemalan government.
This is a softcover book which is the only edition, since it was published in Guatemala in 2005. The book is the First edition, and is written in both English and Spanish. It is in NEW condition; here may be very slight rubbing to the cover from storage. It is illustrated with numerous drawings and photographs both in color and black-and-white.

Welcome to Stony Hill Antiques and Gallery
Welcome to Stony Hill Antiques and Gallery. We offer an eclectic collection of textiles, books and fine art from around the world. Our primary interest is Latin America, and you will find high quality paintings, textiles and other fine arts from many Latin American countries. There are also reference and history books, and many more will be added over the coming months. Since I have a large collection of African textiles, some of these are the first to be listed. Our store inventory is extensive and quite varied, so we will be adding items on an almost weekly basis. If you are looking for something in particular, please send us an email. Or check back regularly to see what had been added. All Guatemalan textiles and paintings were purchased on trips to that country beginning in 1996. Many of the paintings were purchased directly from the artists, or from their personal representatives. Authenticity is guaranteed. All textiles were chosen personally, with a special eye for quality, aesthetic appeal, authenticity and condition. If you are not satisfied with your purchase, please feel free to return it for a full refund.
A word about our inventory: Most of the art and textile items are one-of-a-kind. The shopping cart and checkout should be adjusted to correctly reflect the number of identical items in the inventory. Most books, on the other hand, are available in multiple copies. Please inquire if you wish to make larger quantity purchases.
Thanks for visiting our site, and please now continue your exploration.
