Woman's necklace 32 inches long of glass beads
Maya Indian women of Guatemala wear a variety of decorative jewelry. The women of the Sacatepequez and Chimaltenango departments usually wear necklaces made from old glass beads, often of various shapes. See the picture of a family group of 3 women from Patzun.
This particular necklace is from one of the villages in the Chimaltenango department, probably Patzun. The beads are about 7 mm. in diameter, and of a flat circular disc shape. The color is light blue, the total length is 32 inches. The necklace is strung on nylon cord. It is probably 20-40 years old.
