Woman's necklace 34 inches long of glass beads
Maya Indian women of Guatemala wear a variety of decorative jewelry. The women of the Sacatepequez and Chimaltenango departments usually wear necklaces made from old glass beads, often of various shapes. See the picture of a woman from San Juan Sacatepequez.
This particular necklace is from one of the villages in the Sacatepequez department, such as San Pedro or San Juan etc. The beads are about 7 mm. in diameter, and of a flat circular disc shape. The color is dark red, the total length is 34 inches. The necklace is strung on nylon cord. It is probably 20-40 years old. This necklace is the one in the upper part of the attached photo.
