Woman's necklace 28 inches long of glass beads
Maya Indian women of Guatemala wear a variety of decorative jewelry. The women of the Sacatepequez and Chimaltenango departments usually wear necklaces made from old glass beads, often of various shapes.
This particular necklace is from one of the villages in the Chimaltenango department--Patzun, Tecpan, Comalapa etc. The beads are about 7 mm. in diameter, and of a flat circular disc shape. The color is cobalt blue, the total length is 28 inches. The necklace is strung on cotton cord. And in this case the woman has added 2 small padlock keys, apparently to some area for safe-keeping. It is probably 20-40 years old.
