Child's hat possibly from Santa Maria Cauque
This child's gorra was woven in a single panel on a backstrap loom. The person from whom I bought it did not tell me the origin, but I believe it is from the Maya town of Santa Maria Cauque, located in the department of Sacatepequez, near the ancient colonial capital of Antigua in southern Guatemala. It measures 9 inches wide and 16 inches long. Both ends are selvage-finished. Condition is Very Good, with some light soil and a few pulled threads. This textile was purchased in 2002.
