Large older Andean woman's manta measuring approximately 47 x 48 inches
This is an all wool woman's manta. It is made from handspun wool, hand-woven on an Andean loom. The two panels were joined with an almost invisible zigzag stitch. The dyes appear to be a mostly natural with a few synthetic dyes possible. The foundation fabric is all natural-color variegated brown sheep wool. I would guess the date to be ca. 1960, perhaps somewhat earlier. There is no tubular edging, the edges are all selvage finished. The two panels are almost identical, as can be seen in the first photo below.
Condition is Very Good, light wear to edges, no noticeable holes, light soil possible. The corners curl slightly. There are no holes, stains, or other major flaws. This is a very nicely woven older Andean manta.
