Description of the "Declaration of Havana" portfolio of 40 woodcuts
The Cuban Revolution of 1959 produced a surge in artistic expression. In the graphic arts, this was expressed in social and anti-imperialist themes. The Consejo Nacional de Cultura published in 1961 in Havana a large portfolio titled "Declaracion de la Habana: 40 Xilografias Cubanas". Included was the text of the Declaration, biographies of the participating artists, and 40 wood-block prints in black on light cream-colored paper. Sheet size is 19 x 14 inches.
The individual listing images show the complete set. Of some images, I have individual copies for sale. They are all original wood-block prints. Condition varies, so please read the descriptions carefully.
For this complete set that is for sale, the portfolio cover is as shown--in 3 pieces and quite worn. The contents were well protected, however, with the text and biography sheets and 39 of the block prints all clean with paper bright and white. The only print with any problem is #35, Nationalization of Medicine. This sheet has paper very lightly browned; very small corner tear, with small pieces of paper tape at edges on back side.
